Price Matching

February 20, 2012

Most of the big box stores have a competitor store price match or a price guarantee policy within their company guidelines. Here is a list I have put together of chain stores and the highlights of their current policies (full policies available in links and policies are subject to change).

Best Buy – in store at customer service with proof of competitor’s price. Can be before you buy or during return/exchange period. Online must call customer service with proof of Best Buy store or local competitor price (no online only retailers).

Amazon (TVs) – TVs only, list of eligible websites that are considered competitors that can be price matched up to 14 days past shipment, or a refund if Amazon drops the price within 14 days after shipment.

Walmart – local competitor store, but do not need ad as proof. Includes competitor loyalty card prices and buy-one-get-one-free sales if price is specified. No internet pricing or percent off sales.

Target – price matching can be done with cashier or customer service with proof of ad or catalogue at time of purchase or within 7 days after purchase. Manufacture coupons will be applied after price matching, Target store coupons will be applied before price matching. Target.com pricing is not valid in stores.

Bed Bath & Beyond – direct compeitiors’ prices will be honored in store and through phone orders for online purchases.

Kohl’s – any local competitor ad with identical product will be price matched. Kohls.com online pricing is not valid in stores.

Nordstrom – any similar retailer with an identical product will be matched. Any lowered price within 2 weeks after purchase will be refunded as well. Designer goods and cosmetics not included in either offer.

Sears – will beat any local competitor ad by 10% with proof of ad at time of purchase and up to 14 days after purchase. Online competitors that have local stores that honor their online prices also count towards the 10% additional refund at time of purchase and up to 14 days after. Not valid for sales that last less than 6 hours or Black Friday.

Lowes – guarantees to beat any local competitor ad by 10% and match any percent off that a competitor is offering on an identical product with proof of ad. Not valid on clearance or closeout.

Home Depot – any local competitor will be matched plus 10% of the difference. Does not include rebates, closeouts, or special orders.

Firestone – within 30 days after the date of purchase, a refund of 150% of the difference from a local ad on a similar make/model tire and the price of a tire purchased from a Firestone Complete Auto Care store. Excludes clearances, closeouts and catalogs.

Advance Auto Parts – call customer service if the online price at advanceautoparts.com is higher than local store. Local store lower prices will take precedent when ordered online for in store pickup. In store price matching occurs at time of purchase and up to 30 days after purchase with local competitor ad, not including competitor coupons, GPS units, non-professional websites or clearance.

Staples – will match any local competitor and a specified list of online retailers at time of purchase and up to 14 days after purchase. Also honor staples.com prices. Coupons and rebates are deducted from price match.

Office Max – Price matching on officemax.com must be emailed (if another website) or faxed (if print ad) for competitor price matching. No internet-only stores or specified as in-store only purchases. Not valid on clearance prices. In store competitor price matching will give you the full difference for an identical product, with rebates and coupons deducted from price match.
