Annual Credit Report

February 11, 2012

You can obtain a free credit report 3 times a year from the FTC government site if you obtain it from a different company (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) each time. You can view it online immediately, or it can mailed to you in about 2 weeks. Monitoring your credit report is always a good idea, especially since any illegal activity can take a long time to clear up! Note – to receive your FICO score, which usually determines your interest rate on loans, you do have to pay extra, since there is no free site. Several websites offer free credit reports and fico scores as part of a “free trial”, but beware any time you have to enter credit card information in order to access your reports – you’ll have to remember to cancel those later! Money Blue Book offers a great list of which ones to avoid as well.
